Loosely based on Carson McCullers' novella The Ballad of the Sad Café, the film centers on two women who have recently separated from their husbands, and the blossoming friendship that ensues.

We drove off the road to see the Bagdad Cafe which is in our opinion a very historic location based on the film. The Barn - Route 66; Newberry Farm; Nightlife in Newberry Springs. Fortunately for us the credit card machine was broke so we could not eat as I don't carry cash.All three staff members I interacted with had dirty fingernails.

I lost my appetite.Brilliant place, but, if you are not the adventurous type, ONLY ONLY ONLY go there IF you have seen the movie and LIKED IT very much. If you are worried about the food, stick to the buffalo burgers, they are excellent. These people who run it, have no care in the world for cleanliness, and are dismissive at most. Yikes!

Menus are stapled together. They ran out of eggs at 11 am and had to go to the store to fix us breakfast.Something is just "right" about this place. Paid for our drinks ($6 for a coke and a coffee) and left before we would experience any more madness. The place is overloaded with tourist left ephemera which adds to its quirkiness. It is a comedy-drama set in a remote truck stop and motel in the Mojave Desert in the US state of California. There is a lot of history here. Disgusting!! You must see the movie to really appreciate this place. We sat in the dark until the waitress screwed the light down to turn it on. It's a cute little diner with some Hollywood history and Route 66 "fame." The service is very slow. Unfortunately the motel doesn't exist any more, but they do still have the water tower and the sign for the motel that...It’s everything I had hoped for; just like the movie. Very friendly and accomodating owners. The service was very slow. There were dirty tables with food on them, and spills on the floor. We weren't expecting much, but the gal who helped us out was so nice and friendly definitely more than we had expected! Inside a very friendly woman her friend and their little black dog. I don't think anything has been cleaned in there since the movie was filmed. The restaurant is closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic but the owner allowed us to browse inside. Their grand daughers dog roams through the place at will.

Ordered ice cream and they were out. Well...yeah?

She came to take our drink order and then we overheard her asking someone to call (like phone call) the cook. I had the Zack (double bacon cheese burger). It was my parents in law, my fiancé, and myself. We approached the lady at the register and requested a table for 4. the lady asks "to eat?" Fun place, good food, nice people. It seems that, from other reviews, that the service can be friendly - but not for us. The male member had on very dirty shorts and he served our drinks holding his fingers on the rim of our glasses. So I'd like…"If you love visiting movie locations then this is must see and should be on your bucket list. Chef Mike was "on his way out" but stuck around and was chatty and friendly. I had an ortega melt well done and it was well done the first time (never happens I swear). Bagdad Cafe is the story of a coffee-shop without coffee, and of the tiny gas station and the filthy motel nearby, which gather on the edge of a decommissioned, abandoned Route 66.Deserted.

It runs 95 minutes in the U.S. and 108 minutes in the German version. Michael did a wonderful job of providing us with all sorts of local info about the Cafe, its history and surrounding area. The male member had on very dirty shorts. Avoid the chicken, you'll need a steak knife to cut it, then again: they provide that.Dropped in on the 4th of July. Completely FILTHY!!

After a Google search we decided we'd give this place a go.

We were hungry and didn't want to wait until Barstow. The place is very dirty and run down.

This will be my stop off place now, while running down Route 66 for desert photo shoots. There is dust and grease film on everything. A visit to this fine restaurant is also in order if you're in the mood for a great meal, and you're a history buff, especially if you're a fan of historic Route 66...walked in and holy shit, what a wild ride. If you're a local resident, Bagdad Cafe maintains a "bar tab" for locals, so you can charge your meals and pay them once a month, which is such a great thing for locals.

So every few hours a bus gets out full of French tourists taking millions of photos and running around in Glee!A truly unique spot here in the deserts of California.This is the most disgusting dirtiest place i have ever seen in my life (And this is coming from someone that has seen quite a bit of this world, and usually loves those "run down looking" places). There were areas in the bathroom in dysrepair.This place is amazing, We pulled up and thought it was actually closed, A wooden door on the front covered in The movie was quirky and interesting, but this place was disgusting.
