I was curious about a novel featuring mostly white characters--and it's very well-written, but I have had some trouble engaging over the long term. The book provides an in depth analysis of writer's themes characters and techniques for a fuller comprehension of various horizons of Baldwin's philosophic thought as depicted in his novels. He travelled all across from Paris to Turkey in poor health, depressed, and feeling that he had lost sight of his aims as a writer.
