Richard Kelly (1910–1977) was an American lighting designer, considered one of the pioneers of architectural lighting design. These pageants were a place for young women to learn self-confidence, stage presence, and interviewing skills.

Kelly lived her life as a Devout Catholic with a very strong Faith.

She will be felt in the hearts and minds of so many; in the halls, organizations, and communities she impacted; and through the programs of compassion and education she inspired. Skillful lighting allowed for theatricality, narrative, and a new emphasis on structure and space. She chaired Governor’s Balls, Inauguration’s, and Parades.

Due to the recessed fixtures, Kelly was able to concentrate on the effects of the lighting and not the luminaires.

She has been written up in various publications and is a published author of “The Civil War: Remembrances, Rhythms & Recipes”, along with poetry and short stories.Kelly graduated from Huntington East High School, and attended Marshall College (University), as a Journalism Major and W. Page Pitt Scholar, while working split shifts with her sister at Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Company.Kelly moved to New York City, and attended Drake Drama School and the Cambridge School of Radio and Television.
