The backdrop of New Orleans really allowed the writers to harness the witchy, historic allure of the French Quarter, which gave the series an authentic feel that wasn't limited to fangs. Better characters, less annoying dialogue (even if some is literally incoherent or inconsistent with the character's previous scene/episode).
